Quebec’s Liberal Party has chosen its candidate for a byelection in the Bonaventure riding in the province’s Gaspé region.
Damien Arsenault , the mayor of St-Elzéar, Que., is in the running to replace former deputy premier Nathalie Normandeau.
Normandeau announced her departure from politics in September, saying she wished to concentrate on her private life after serving as Bonaventure’s MNA for 13 years.
“If I want to win the confidence of the people of Bonaventure, it’s because I have the regions’ interests at heart,” Arsenault said in a release. He’s been the mayor of St-Elzéar since 1993.
A date has not yet been set for the byelection.
