Nahl 43-44

43- AND THOSE WE SENT BEFORE YOU WERE BUT MEN WE SENT OUR REVEALATIONS TO, THEREFORE ASK THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE KNOWLEDE, IF YOU DO NOT KNOW.

44- THE CLEAR EVIDENCE AND THE HOLY BOOKS, AND WE HAVE SENT YOU THE ZEKR DOWN TO MAKE CLEAR TO PEOPLE WHAT HAS BEEN SENT TO THEM, AND SO THAT THEY MAY THINK AND REFLECT.

The mission of the prophets and messengers is to deliver Allah’s message to people, show them the way, guide them and be a good example for them to follow, both in worship and behavior.   This requires that they will be able to communicate with their people, and to be one of them so that they can be taken as examples to follow.  It is therefore that Allah the Highest sent the prophets and messengers from the human beings and not from the angels.  The angels carried the revelations to the messengers, but the messengers delivered these revelations and explained them to mankind.  Allah the Highest said: “AND WHAT PREVENTED PEOPLE FROM BELIEVING WHEN THE RIGHT GUIDANCE CAME TO THEM WAS THAT THEY SAID: “DID ALLAH SEND A HUMAN BEING FOR A MESSENGER?” * SAY: “IF THERE WERE ANGELS WALKING PEACEFULLY ON EARTH, WE WOULD HAVE SENT DOWN TO THEM FROM HEAVEN AN ANGEL FOR A MESSENGER”.  (S:17 A:94-95)

This has been the case and Allah’s policy since the beginning of creation.

Then Allah the Highest instructs us that when we do not know, we should ask those who have a clear understanding and clear knowledge of the subject.  This applies to religion first of all, but also applies to all aspects of life, which is what wise people normally do.  The prophets and messengers are the source of knowledge concerning Allah the Highest and religion.

Knowledge is valuable, and is not easy to have.  Knowledge is not just knowing facts, but it is understanding facts and reflecting on what we know to see what is behind and beyond it.  This is why Allah the Highest after mentioning knowledge says: “SO THAT THEY MAY THINK AND REFLECT”

Human beings and particularly the knowledgeable amongst them, are not meant to be just walking encyclopedias, but they should be able to think and have deep understanding of such knowledge.
